I'm Derbáil Kinsella, a professional improviser and sketch comedy writer/performer with a strong background in character-driven storytelling. My career has taken me across Europe, North America, and Australia, where I’ve performed on renowned stages like The Second City and Comedy Bar Toronto. Most recently, I co-wrote, performed, and produced the sold-out show A Sketchy Night with my sketch troupe, Grown & Sexy, at Sketch Fest Toronto. Now based in Dublin, I’m excited to dive into the Irish and European improv scenes, bringing my unique voice and creative energy to new audiences.

My comedic style has been shaped by extensive training at institutions like The Second City, Bad Dog Theatre Company, UCB, and Improv Theatre Sydney, along with workshops led by experts such as Keith Johnstone, Annie Ryan, Elf Lyons, and Rob Norman. As a neurodivergent comedian with OCD, I love transforming everyday moments into absurd, larger-than-life sketches, blending humor with emotional depth.

I’ve performed with improv house teams at Improv Theatre Sydney, The Second City Toronto, and Bad Dog Theatre Company in Toronto. I’ve also been a recurring guest performer on shows like Party Hard, Hard Party by Rob Norman and Adam Cawley at Comedy Bar Toronto’s Main Stage, and Beer Beer by Matt McCready at Socap Comedy’s Main Stage. Additionally, I’ve competed in improv competitions such as Improv Cagefight in Sydney and the World’s Biggest Improv Championship at Socap Comedy.

I’m known for breaking the fourth wall and incorporating audience interaction, thriving on spontaneity and connection to make the audience an integral part of each performance. I’ve also worked in production for immersive theatre shows like Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More and performed as a physical character actor in shows like Curse of the Mummy by Punchdrunk in NYC, Visiting Hours at King’s Cross Theatre in Sydney, and the Casa Loma Series by Secret City Adventures in Toronto. I also made my comedy video debut as James Franko’s wedding planner in The Lonely Island's satirical music video Spring Break Anthem. As a graduate of The Second City Conservatory, I’m passionate about fostering creativity through improvisation and helping others develop character-driven improv and storytelling.
